PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor) is a server side script language and it is very useful in making dynamic websites by connecting through database(e.g MySQL).It is open source and free.You can install it on Ubuntu 10.04 or any other distribution of linux in many ways e.g by using Synaptic Package Manager or Install it manually after downloading it from it’s website.PHP comes in many packages and modules,so it depends on your work.In general there is a software called LAMP(For Linux),contains all the combination required for web designing.L stands for Linux,A for Apache,M for MySQL and P for PHP.If you have installed other softwares,then correct php modules you can install it by the following method.

Using Command Line/Terminal

Just Type the following command at ubuntu terminal(Hit CTRL+ALT+T to open terminal) and enter the login password.
$ sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5

Using Synaptic Package Manager

1.Go to Synaptic Package Manager and search for php.
2.Check the boxes corresponding to the package/module you want to install.
3.Click on Apply to begin the download.It will take few minutes to complete.
4.After completion of download,installation will begin automatically and hardly takes a minutes.(You may have to provide extra details e.g if you want to connect it through MySQL database).
5.That’s All.

Install VirtualBox in Ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx)/9.10

#1. Open Synaptic Package Manager and search for “virtualbox”.
#2. Then,you can select/mark the packages you want to install.Mark the row which says virtualbox-ose and click on ok when it asks to install additional packages(dependencies).By default virtual-box will install qt based graphical interface;if you want GTK based Graphical interface then mark it.
#3. Next,click on Apply to install the marked packages.Then wait(Few Minutes) until the installation will complete.

Download and install
Get eclipse from its official website and extract it to any directory (say ‘home’) and make it executable using chmod command, add a path variable (to access directly) if required.

Go to menu located in Top Left corner and search for ‘Ubuntu Software Center’. Now open Ubuntu Software Center and search for “adobe flash” and install it in a single click But above method is better if you want to install latest version or install it from synaptic package manager (don’t forget to click on reload button in the beginning itself, for latest information regarding the packages). The process is quite simple – search for ‘adobe flash’ and mark the box for installation which says – ‘Adobe Flash Plugin’ ;
Now click on Apply button to install the selected package(s).

With Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10 or/and higher.

Method 1: Graphical way
1. Open Synaptic application
2. Click on System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager.
3. In Settings -> Repositories, make sure you have an universe repository activated.
4. Search for vlc and install it. You should install vlc-plugin-pulse and mozilla-plugin-vlc as well.
5. If you are interested in streaming or transcoding, you should additionnally install libavcodec-extra-52 from a multiverse repository.

Method 2: Command line way
You need to check that a universe mirror is listed in your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

% sudo apt-get update 
% sudo apt-get install vlc vlc-plugin-pulse mozilla-plugin-vlc
